Loan Forgiveness Agencies Are Not Too Forgiving In This Hard Economic TimeThursday Jul 16, 2009
After my wonderful day yesterday that was capped off by a hilarious viewing of Bruno, I am a little laughed out. My jaw literally hurts. So, I thought I would go away from the comedy today. Please bare with me.
With the job market in the current situation it is is, recent graduates are jumping on any opportunity to secure a position. In addition to a poor job market, many college graduates are over their head in loans that were taken out to pay for their college education. Specific high-need fields, such as public service, nursing, and teaching, look to lure in recent graduates with the promise to forgive a portion or all of an individuals loans. That sounds rather enticing right? Wrong. If you are reading this and it sounds like your life story then pay attention. As Bruno would say, "Hello, this is uber important!"
With the economy the way it is, the promise of these high-need fields to forgive loan debt is literally impossible. Unfortunately, students that were drawn into these fields merely based on the fact that a good amount of their loans would be taken care of are now left out to dry. The state agencies can no longer afford to forgive the loans and the graduates are stuck with the burden. Graduates be aware, loan forgiveness agencies all over the country are feeling the wrath of the poor economy. With the combination of a rapid decline in government aid and the dire market conditions, loan forgiveness seems to be out the door.
Unfortunately, this is just a sign of the times. I am not even sure there is anyone to point the finger at. Money is tough to come by in this hard economic time, and it is not difficult to understand that one the first things to go is loan forgiveness. Graduates be aware that the lure of loan forgiveness for high-need fields is not likely to be very fruitful at this juncture. I know this was not the most up-beat blog I have written, but I thought it was important information for people thinking about entering these high-needs fields in exchange for forgiving loan debt. If you are slightly depressed after reading this I apologize. However, I do recommend that you go see Bruno to cheer you up. You will be laughing from line one, "Vassssup! My name is Bruno!"
