Be careful about the information you share on Facebook and TwitterTuesday May 18, 2010
Facebook is tops. No denying that. Now, you can update your Facebook status explaining that you just saw the worlds ugliest dog when you walked down the street. Or, you can mention how many drinks you had at the party last night and how stellar it was. But, you really shouldn’t mention the latter and here’s why. Now, when you apply for that student credit card, student loan, new apartment, etc., banks, credit unions, and yes even realtors or landlords are checking you out on Facebook and Twitter to see what you’ve updated lately. They are using it as a basis to determine if they’ll give you a new credit card, loan, or give you a place to live.
So, you probably shouldn’t Tweet that you had a ‘raging kegger’ at your place last night while you’re looking for a new apartment. Just spent $400 on some awesome new shoes? Well, don’t mention that on your Facebook status if you’re late on your credit card payments. It’s amazing how this information can now be used to turn your life upside down. But, that’s the way the world works.
