This will be my first student credit card. Wish me luck!Friday Jan 15, 2010
I’m a 2nd year college student and my parents want me to start paying for things on my own. I have a student job and make okay money but I feel like I need a little bit of help. So, here I am, looking at getting a Student Credit Card for emergencies. I’ve checked out a few of the ones on this site and I’m not sure which one to get.
I guess I have a couple of questions. Do I want to get a student credit card and use it all the time and pay if off each time so it builds up my credit or do I only want to use it for emergencies? I know the more you use a credit card, depending on which one you choose, you could earn some pretty nice rewards. All of the student credit cards offer 5% cash back bonuses, which sounds pretty good to me. There’s no annual fee which is great because I would rather not pay to have a credit card each year. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for when choosing the right card? I know I want a low APR rate and probably one that won’t charge me crazy fees. Aside from that, I’m not really sure what else to look for.
I suppose there’s no difference in which one I choose as long as I pay them all on time, I’ll get rewards with them all. And, I’m sure my limit won’t be too high, seeing as I’m a college student and all. I’m really excited to have my first credit card but I just don’t want to use it so much that I get in trouble. Does anyone have any tips on being responsible with a student credit card?
I’ll be choosing one this week and I hope I get approved. I can’t imagine I wouldn’t get approved for a small amount on a student card. I’ll probably end up going with the Discover Student Card - Tropical Beach (because it’s a cute card) and I think it offers a lot of benefits.
This will be my first card. Wish me luck!
