Student Credit Cards Vs. Credit CardsWednesday Mar 24, 2010
I would like to rant a bit, if I may, about credit or credit cards or student credit cards, whatever. I understand the need, especially today, for a credit card. It establishes what kind of person you are, meaning, what you buy, what you value (i.e. do you pay your bills on time, how high do you let your bills get). My issue is basically with how they are run, or lack thereof, or their strategy of making me think there is a lack of proper management and care for their customers. Whatever their deal is, I’m not a fan.
Let’s take the relative lack of ease that regular credit cards give you. I started out with student credit cards and had a great experience with those companies. I understood what the APR was, managed my use of them, and paid my bills on time. It was a great experience. I know I’m an exception in that, not the rule, but once you graduate, the honeymoon is over.
I’ve tried for two weeks to have a simple address change done with my regular credit card (I won’t name the company right here). REALLY!? to quote Seth Myers. Furthermore, let’s take my department store credit card. These people send me a NEW card that expires in three months, THREE months. What is the point of sending me this? I have barely anything on that credit card debt-wise. It’s a waste of materials, paper, and time to send me this thing!
Why can’t I go back to the days of student credit cards (mid 2000’s before everything went to hell and back)? Enjoy it while you can.
